John J. Pershing was born September 13, 1860 and died July 15, 1948. He
was born in Laclede, Missouri. He graduated from the U.S. Military
Academy at West Point in 1886. He was in command of the American
Expeditionary Force in Europe during World War I. I was interested to
read that he saw his father's store raided by Confederate guerrillas
during the Civil War when he was four years old.

This is the first book I read about Pershing. It told me a lot
about his good and not-so-good points. I can see why most of his troops
adored and respected him, while a few hated him.

This book is written for school kids and does not cover in
detail some things discussed in the other book. It has many examples of
his writing and many pictures.
